Four steps to a written Life Plan and Life Purpose

Zeno Life Plan applies the discipline of strategic planning to the whole of life: four steps, seven life areas, one written Life Plan and one Life Purpose.

The framework

Four steps. One Life Plan.
One Life Purpose.

Steps one to three build the plan. Step four reads what the plan already says.

01 Fulfilment Name what a fulfilled life looks like across seven life areas — and where you honestly stand today. ProducesA baseline
02 Assets Set down what you want to own, to learn and to do. Ambition written as evidence, not aspiration. ProducesA direction
03 Objectives Turn direction into objectives, activities and one practical next step — reviewed each week. ProducesA written Life Plan
04 Life Purpose Read the plan back. The recurring themes of growth, experience and contribution are already there. ProducesA written Life Purpose
Output AA written Life Plan
Output BA written Life Purpose

The Zeno Life Plan methodology

The Zeno Life Plan methodology: seven life areas around a ring — Finance, Career, Spirituality, Friends and Society, Health, Partner and Family — with the assets to own, to learn and to do at the centre, and My Life Purpose.

Inside each step

What each step actually does.

Step one · Fulfilment You score each life area against the life you actually want. The gaps are the work.
Step two · Assets Three lists replace vague ambition with things that can be owned, learned and done.
Step three · Objectives Each objective carries activities, a measure and one next step. The weekly review moves them.
Step four · Life Purpose Nothing new is invented. The themes that repeat across the plan are named as purpose.
The whole of life

Seven areas.
None of them optional.

Career matters — but it sits within the whole of life, not above it. A plan that only improves one area is not a Life Plan.

Why it works

Structure, not motivation.

Motivation is an event. A method is a loop that keeps returning — which is why the plan is still true in year three.

Motivation Method
i ReflectionHonest observation before any decision is made.
ii StructureThe same four steps, in the same order, every time.
iii ActionOne next step, small enough to actually be taken.
iv ReviewWeekly. The loop closes and begins again.
Plate II · Evidence becomes purpose

Purpose is not invented.
It is recognised.

LIFE AREAS ASSETS OBJECTIVES PATTERNS LIFE PURPOSE seven areas to own to learn to do what keeps recurring My Life Purpose
By step four the evidence already exists. Purpose is the sentence that describes what the plan has been saying all along.
Foundations

Four disciplines, one method.

Stoicism Direction begins with what is genuinely yours to decide.
Vipassana Seeing things as they are. Observation before change.
Behavioural science Small, consistent actions compound. Habit outlasts intent.
Strategic planning Baselines, objectives, evidence and review — applied to one life.

“As an executive, I always applied structure and strategic planning to businesses, but never to my own life.”
